Job Overview:

This role is an integral member of Carbon America, reporting to the CCFO.

The individual in this role will manage, coordinate, and oversee the originationstructuringunderwriting, and execution of development and operating assets of Power generation and complex Carbon Capture Storage & Utilization (CCUS) projects for Carbon America. Their responsibilities will include management of the development process, directly or through Joint Development Agreements for the projects. Responsibilities include negotiation and execution of key material contracts, coordinating with internal stakeholders when appropriate: partnering, development, land leases, offtake agreements, supply and operation agreements.

This individual will have technical and commercial expertise, will manage directly and indirectly all development activities of Complex CCUS projects with sustained excellence in project management practices. They will organize and attend periodic development meetings, provide or acquire technical information and analysis for key decision-making, and lead the development of managed-project budgets. They will also oversee financial performance of assets, asset cash flow requirements, and monthly drawdowns, including funding requests, and provide analytical and technical support to investment team members for investment and divestment purposes. Oversees contractual and regulatory compliance.

This position will also be responsible for effectively managing partners, facilitating project board meetings , obtaining consents as well as other communications. This individual is expected to coordinate and collaborate with other functional areas both within the organization and with third party service providers to deliver comprehensive development services. The ability to work as part of a team is essential to this position, maintaining a strong leadership presence while working well with all levels of the organization, including with partners, and project stakeholders: Landowners, regulatory entities, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Required

  • 10+ years of experience in the CCS, power or energy industry with whole project cycle experience: originating, partnering, developing, financing, construction, and operations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is preferred; degrees in Economics, Finance or other applied finance or science field considered, based on applicable experience. MBA degree a plus.
  • Proven track record developing, financing, and managing power assets. Demonstrated ability to work across the organization to achieve business objectives and desired results.
  • Keen understanding of project and structured finance and power generation.
  • Proven ability to quickly and accurately run complex financial models using thoughtful assumptions.
  • The ability to influence and impact the decisions and financial performance of senior stakeholders.
  • Strong presentation, writing, and leadership skills.
  • Resourcefulness and a track record of being a successful team player capable of collaborating with multiple cross-functional teams.
  • Strong commercial skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with a high degree of flexibility.

Preferred

  • Extensive working knowledge of and networks within sectors that have large CO 2 emissions
  • Master’s Degree

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Originates and structures projects with a project finance mindset.
  • Manages directly or indirectly, the siting, land acquisition/leasing, licensing and permitting of development projects, including Public and Community relations before the construction phase.
  • Primary interface to the engineering, legal, and Financial Planning & Analysis.
  • Manage various projects, their respective commercial agreements, and initiatives as identified to maximize value.
  • Works directly with other members of ComDev organization to coordinate and plan the appropriate sequestration strategy to ensure project viability and bankability.
  • Originate and develop carbon utilization opportunities with partners and customers.
  • Manage and negotiate with third-party vendors and services providers, including but not limited to O&M providers, equipment providers, insurance brokers, and collaborate with CA’s technical FP&A and legal staff to execute contracts.
  • Support commercial activities related to business development, such as due diligence efforts for new projects in both core and non-core markets as needed.
  • Oversee development spend, payments, and accounting profit forecasting.
  • Collaborate with other functional areas to develop and implement business practices that meet the needs of other partners as well as the internal organization; related to asset development, asset optimization and hedging, asset performance reporting and financial and regulatory reporting.
  • Directly supports the assigned financial executive on strategy, project finance, project investment, and structured finance of the projects and the portfolio.

General Requirements and Job Details:

  • Must be able to work at a computer for at least eight hours per day
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • This position is based out of our Lakewood, Colorado offices.
  • This Exempt position has a standard schedule of Monday through Friday and is Full-Time.
  • This is a salaried position so there may be times when a non-standard schedule is required.

  • Periodic travel to meet with commercial counterparts and visit project sites is required
  • This is a Monday through Friday, Full-Time, Exempt position.
