About The PositionAs a member of the executive team, the VP of Influence will take the lead on thought leadership, strategic coalitions, and campaigns that can shape norms and practices to increase Candid’s collective impact across the whole social sector. The VP will be responsible for looking beyond Candid’s discrete product offerings to build trust, grow awareness of Candid, and seek to influence best practices towards a more efficient, effective, and equitable social sector.Reporting directly to the CEO, the VP leads four departments, including Communications and Brand Awareness, Development, Partnerships, and Partnership Operations. In addition, the VP will collaborate closely with the VP of Growth and VP of Product Management to ensure Candid taps into its wide feedback loop to design and deliver compelling products and services that are widely adopted and make a substantial positive impact.This is a unique opportunity to build coalition, increase impact, and drive equity across the social sector through the use of technology, data, and strategic communications at an organization poised to transform the way the social sector operates.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
Strategic Initiatives
- In close collaboration with the CEO and Executive Team develop an effective strategy for Candid’s influence agenda, clearly defining how Candid shows up in the world – what we say, how we say it, and who we partner with
- Overall lead for the strategy and implementation of Candid’s Data1x vision (to reduce the burden on nonprofits by enabling them to share their data just one time (Data1x) by asking for it in a way that can be easily accessed and reused by others), starting with demographic data and expanding to grant application and reporting over time.
- Provide strategic oversight for Candid’s external brand awareness and communications vision, ensuring Candid develops a compelling and widely recognized persona and voice that propels the organization as the go-to destination for information needed to achieve social good
- Hold annual and long-term overall responsibility and accountability for Candid’s contributed income (approximately 15% of total revenue) from varying forms of grants, including general operating support and special projects
- Set and oversee the vision for the Partnerships Function, to strengthen mutually beneficial relationships with sector-wide leading organizations, ensuring Candid’s approach ) is thoughtfully informed by industry influencers and collaborative in nature Improve internal feedback loops for maximizing Candid’s knowledge of the needs and challenges faced by non–profit organizations, philanthropy serving organizations, grantmakers, and other partners, ensuring that information is readily available to fuel the development of our products and services
- Partner closely with the VP of Growth to ensure products are widely adopted through pipeline partnerships (coalitions, alliances, associations, affinity groups, etc.), amplifying access to the organization’s resources through a ‘one to many’ approach
- Partner closely with VP of Finance to set annual and long-range fund development targets
- Identify new opportunities to expand Candid’s reach and impact
- Closely monitor and actively participate in conversations/events related to the sector’s most pressing challenges and trends, including but not limited to equity, efficiency, effectiveness, scalability, and transparency
- Effectively represent Candid at conferences and other key forums nationally and globally
Team and Organizational Management
- As a member of the executive team, share accountability for Candid’s overall success including strategic planning, leadership development, change management, and both organizational and fiscal health
- Lead the Influence team, ensuring the thoughtful development of Candid’s brand awareness strategy, data partnerships with funders and coalitions, and a solid portfolio of general operating support funders
- Develop and coach each team leader to achieve their annual goals and key performance indicators
- Support the recruitment and hiring of high-performing and diverse talent as Candid grows
- Develop and manage a divisional budget
- Serve as a public spokesperson for Candid’s mission and value
Candidate Requirements
- A minimum of fifteen years experience with progressively greater responsibilities and senior leadership roles in the social sector (operating non-profit and/or philanthropy); ideally brings expertise in partnerships, fund development, and/or communications
- Respected thought leader in the social sector with strong, established networks
- Brings deep experience in and passion for the social sector, with a strong knowledge of the sector’s needs, challenges, and opportunities; prioritizes and understands the importance of promoting equity
- A record of leveraging data to promote data-backed decision making and problem solving
- Strong strategic and systems thinker with the ability to motivate, inspire, and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Diligent listener and effective communicator with outstanding written and verbal skills and the ability to adapt approach among diverse audiences
- Successful track record meeting or exceeding fund development targets
- Extremely flexible and works well in a dynamic, constantly changing work environment
- Values self-care in order to perform high value work at both the individual and team level
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and the ability to serve as an exemplar for an organization’s values and foster an inclusive workplace

Compensation And BenefitsCompensation and Benefits The salary range for this position will be within the $200K – $300K range annually, with the exact salary depending on location as well as prior work experience and the assessment of one’s fit for the role. Additionally, Candid provides a suite of competitive benefits including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 403b contribution based on 7% of the annual base salary (plus a quarterly match), and 27 PTO days, plus 11 paid holidays and three early closing surrounding holidays.Location Remote/flexible within the United States. Candid has an activity-based office policy, with monthly visits to the New York City headquarters expected for executive team members.
