The Vice President (VP) of Finance will play an integral role in the growth and maturation of Novo. You will report to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with dotted line responsibilities to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). As the first dedicated finance member of the team, you will lead structured finance for Novo’s portfolio of projects, which may involve hedge products, project debt, tax equity, and/or corporate back-leverage. The VP of Finance will also be responsible for building Novo’s structured finance, accounting, tax, and financial planning and analysis divisions as the company matures. Additional hires underneath this role will be made within the first 6 months of the VP Finance’s start date.

This position is ideally based in the Denver metro area and is expected to work in a hybrid remote/in-office manner with business travel required to drive Novo’s financing activities. In other words, outside of travel requirements, the position will be in office (Golden, CO) 1-2 days per week with the remainder work from home. Remote location is acceptable. This position reports to the CEO.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The VP of Finance and their direct reports can be expected to undertake the following responsibilities:
- Execute on complex development debt, construction debt, term debt, tax equity, and/or corporate back-leverage financings for Novo’s portfolio of projects
- Maintain Novo’s suite of financial models, including model files used for hydrogen pricing, project financing, and corporate cash flow and liquidity planning
- Track ongoing developments in capital markets and tax law, and advise on project financing strategies that capture current macroeconomic trends
- Identify and manage project/business risks, and secure commercial insurance policies as necessary
- Provide leadership and guidance to other functional areas (e.g. Sales, Development) as they negotiate key contracts or develop strategies that affect the financeability of projects
- In collaboration with the CEO, oversee Novo’s ongoing corporate liquidity requirements and advise on the company’s go-forward capitalization strategy. Lead future corporate fundraising activities as necessary
- Build Novo’s structured finance, accounting, tax, and financial planning/analysis teams by hiring diverse, top industry talent over time
- Strategize on Novo’s growth trajectory as the premiere renewable hydrogen developer in North America. Provide thought leadership on target markets and geographies, downstream integration, and other strategic business opportunities
- Develop and maintain a robust suite of accounting policies, resources, and controls that will pass muster for future internal and external financial audit requirements
- Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements to comply with financial reporting requirements with third parties and internal accounting procedures

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a business, economics, or STEM field
- 8+ years of project or corporate finance experience, preferably in power, renewable energy, utilities, or infrastructure
- Expert proficiency in financial modeling for complex power or infrastructure projects
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint with a willingness to learn other software-based tools
- Experience with US GAAP practices, journal entries, and other month-end accounting procedures
- Experience with multi-entity legal structures
- Experience managing a team of multiple individual contributors, including recruitment, workload prioritization, and performance management
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in both oral and written English
- Ability to effectively operate with high energy and flexibility in a fast-paced, constantly evolving team environment
- Creativity and strategic thinking skills to address complex challenges
- Initiative-taking with a strong blue collar work ethic with the ability to proactively manage diverse relationships and multiple projects simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate degree, public accounting certification, or MBA
- Experience in the renewable energy or hydrogen sectors
- Experience with corporate capital raising or M&A at an early stage company
- Experience working with and soliciting buy-in from company Boards of Directors
- Deep network of relationships in capital markets
- Experience with widely used accounting software packages
