Content & Communications
The Content & Communications role will be responsible for helping to set the editorial agenda for firm-wide thought leadership, with a particular focus on retirement readiness and what’s needed to create lifetime income for people everywhere. This role will work with the Editor in Chief and colleagues across the organization to develop the themes critical to TIAA’s focus on institutional and individual retirement clients and generate creative ways to communicate our insights to our various audiences, including clients, consultants, and law and policy makers.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Create enterprise-level thought leadership content for all of TIAA’s institutional and individual clients. This will include articles, graphics, web content, video and event scripting, social media and email campaigns.
Help establish regularly recurring content series, and develop ideas for new campaigns. Act as the lead writer for the biggest initiatives.
Coordinate with colleagues at Nuveen to leverage their content and customize it for TIAA audiences.
Develop relationships with thought leaders throughout the firm—and draw on a deep roster of independent, outside sources whenever appropriate—to identify the biggest issues facing our clients and develop content ideas
Create content partnerships across marketing as well as senior investment and business stakeholders across the firm.

The Senior Director, Editorial Strategy will work with the Editor in Chief and colleagues across the organization to develop the themes critical to TIAA’s focus on institutional and individual retirement clients and generate creative ways to communicate our insights to our various audiences, including clients, consultants, and law and policy makers. The person will also:
- Create enterprise-level thought leadership content for all of TIAA’s institutional and individual clients. This will include articles, graphics, web content, video and event scripting, social media and email campaigns, and possibly more.
- Help establish regularly recurring content series, and develop ideas for new campaigns. Act as the lead writer for the biggest initiatives.
- Coordinate with colleagues at Nuveen to leverage their content and customize it for TIAA audiences.
- Develop relationships with thought leaders throughout the firm—and draw on a deep roster of independent, outside sources whenever appropriate—to identify the biggest issues facing our clients and develop content ideas.
- Create content partnerships across marketing as well as senior investment and business stakeholders across the firm.
- Provide other business support, as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Five plus years of experience as a financial writer; experience as a journalist at a national outlet is a strong plus, as is writing for a financial services firm
- Five plus years having a deep subject matter expertise in the areas core to our business—retirement strategies and products; investing strategies such as income investing and ESG; diversity and inclusion topics
- Five plus years with the ability to understand nuanced and complex topics, draw out a simple message and call to action, and reframe for different audiences, including plan sponsors, consultants, other institutions, and our end investor
- Five plus years of excellent communication skills; must be able to present well at meetings, write conversationally and with authority, and be familiar with a variety of storytelling techniques
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to pivot quickly if news events call for faster communication with our clients
- Superior project management, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Self-directed, self-starter, and motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision in a highly collaborative environment.
- Capable of juggling multiple tasks, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines
- The ability to quickly master TIAA’s systems and technology for content creation, review and approval
Potential Salary: $166,900.00 USD
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
