And the organization will continue to embed diversity, inclusion, belonging, and equality in everything that it does.About The PositionReporting to the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO), the SVP of Development will oversee all major donor giving through the management of our Key Relationships, Brand Partnerships & Foundations, and Donor Experience teams. You’ll be responsible for raising and growing major donor revenue for both water projects and operations (overhead) funding for charity water’s unique 100% model. In 2022, charity water raised more than $100M in annual revenue, with $70M coming from Key Relationships and Brand Partnerships. You’ll also be responsible for generating exponential growth of major donor and corporate revenue, with a focus on major donor acquisition, cultivation, and overall donor experience.In partnership with the CRO, the SVP of Development will design and implement an ambitious and sustainable development strategy to increase philanthropic revenue from a diverse portfolio of companies and high-net-worth donors around the United States and across the globe. Finally, directly managing a team of 24 individuals, with 4 direct reports, you will play a crucial role in mentoring and developing a multichannel team of talented fundraisers to achieve impressive revenue and renewal targets year over year while delivering excellent stewardship experiences for our donor communities.This is an ideal opportunity for a dynamic thinker, communicator, and manager to develop and lead an ambitious major donor fundraising strategy, driving exponential growth for an organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to millions of people around the globe.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
- Developing and delivering a clearly defined major gifts fundraising strategy, including short and long-term measurable KPIs and growth goals for each fundraising channel, members of the team, and yourself
- Managing, growing and developing the fundraising team, employing a coaching mentality to reinforce team members’ goal attainment and ongoing professional development
- Personally managing and growing a diverse portfolio of major donors (including individuals, family foundations, and corporations) for both water projects and operations
- Partnering with the VP of Development and Head of Development Operations to drive fundraising best practices, including systems utilization, prospecting, donor reporting, data review, and donor communications
- Partnering with Marketing and Growth on the creation of the revenue pipeline, working closely with the major gifts teams to create a cohesive and integrated experience that includes a robust fundraising plan in strategic markets
- Collaborating with the VP of Development and the Marketing and Creative teams to develop creative and impactful content and reporting that connects major donors with our work and their impact to increase renewal rates and gift size
- Working with the Key Relationships, Brand Partnerships, and Key Relationships Experience teams to plan and execute cultivation and stewardship events for major donors throughout the year
- Developing and executing the major donor fundraising strategy for the annual gala, charity ball, and Well dinners
- Creating major gift strategies and campaigns for new fundraising initiatives, as needed and on an ongoing basis
Candidate Requirements
- 12+ years of successful nonprofit fundraising experience with a focus on major gifts
- 5+ years of experience successfully growing and developing teams
- Demonstrated experience raising $20 million + annually
- Proven success in soliciting and closing 6- and 7-figure gifts for single donors and corporations
- A proven record of securing donations from a diverse group of individual donors and foundations
- Experience in building and managing a development department and mentoring development staff and/or regional fundraisers toward increasing levels of success
- A consistent track record of creating and executing effective fundraising strategies for diverse revenue streams
- A demonstrated ability to handle multiple, complex fundraising initiatives in a fast-paced environment
- The ability to drive innovation, change, and growth, and be a detail-oriented implementer who can mobilize teams to translate strategy into results
- The ability to inspire and hold accountable diverse internal and external stakeholders (including funders, peers, direct managers and reports, board members, and donors)
- A strong utilization of technology and information systems pertinent to the role
- A mastery of major donor fundraising best practices
- A bachelor’s degree
- Ability to participate in evening and weekend events
- Ability to travel at least 25% of the time (domestically and internationally)
- Experience with Salesforce with Basecamp preferred
