As Principal Electrical Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to support the execution of the business unit strategy, and provide technical leadership, guidance, and oversight for our integrated plan for space-based power electronics product development including overseeing activities throughout the product lifecycle from design concept phase to product release. You will support the architecture and development of product technical baselines that support multiple customers and applications, ensuring consistency, continuity, and configuration control. You will shape product strategy and provide technical investment needs and staffing forecasts to Leadership. You will oversee Technology projects to ensure that they deliver on time and within budget. You will develop budgetary estimates and shape customer requirements during early pursuit phases. You will support proposal technical and cost volumes. You will provide operational guidance to Project Engineering Managers. You will also support program and technical reviews and provide guidance to staff on technical solution synthesis.

Must-haves:

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance is required
  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or other related discipline and typically 14 or more years of relevant experience
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Thorough understanding of Computer Aided Engineering tools
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams

Preferred:

  • Masters degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and tasking an Integrated Product Team (IPT).
  • Demonstrated breadth and depth of expertise in space-based electrical power systems.
  • Expert understanding of power subsystem architecture and functionality, including power generation, conversion, conditioning, control, and distribution.
  • Advanced knowledge of the tradeoffs in parts, unit, and subsystem performance and reliability across different orbital applications and radiation environments.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting, designing, prototyping, qualifying, and delivering electronics-based products in a rapid prototyping commercial space environment.
  • Experience with digital, analog, and/or mixed-signal integrated circuit design, schematic capture, and board layout for power electronics products.
  • Proficient with one or more industry electrical design/simulation tools, such as Altium Designer, PSpice, Mentor Graphics Xpedition, or similar.
  • Prior experience developing and maintaining product line technical baselines that support multiple programs, ensuring consistency, continuity, and configuration control.
  • Experience developing technical proposals and cost volumes.
  • Demonstrated passion for ideation and innovation, as well as motivating others to act by creating a shared sense of vision or purpose.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp technical concepts and understand complex technical and program interdependencies.
  • Possess a strategic mindset, linking technology and business.
  • Team oriented with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proven experience and skills in team building, time management, conflict resolution, communication, briefing, presentation, and strategic thinking.
  • Proven leadership abilities inclusive of successful change management, mentoring, career development, training, succession planning, and enforcing accountability.

Estimated Starting Salary Range:
$159,430.15 – $239,145.23

Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
