About the job

The President and CEO of the Associated General Contractors of Colorado (a chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America) is the chief executive leader of a non-profit construction trade association. The position reports to the AGC Colorado Board of Directors. The President and CEO is the visible leader of the commercial construction industry in Colorado and represents the industry to elected, government agency, and private sector officials and organizations. The President and CEO also develops the strategy and budget for the association in partnership with the Management Committee and Board of Directors and manages the delivery of AGC programs and services.

The President and CEO manages a staff of approximately 15 people and delivers the following services: state and local advocacy, committees, education and training, safety and environmental training, industry networking, workforce development, leadership and professional development, labor relations, diversity and inclusion programs, and well-being and mental health programs.

Essential Responsibilities

Strategy and Vision

Developing the future strategy and vision for the association to be effective in the Colorado marketplace, including innovative programs and services to meet emerging industry needs.

Board of Directors

Collaborating with the Chair and Management Committee to develop board agendas and facilitate discussion on topics within the framework of the strategic plan. Communicating with board members to keep them informed and understand trends and their future industry needs.

Membership

Design programs to retain and grow the membership. Since 2008, AGC has grown from 280 to 680 members and has grown dues revenue from $600,000 to $1,650,000. Future managed growth will be needed to fully implement the strategic plan and vision of the organization.

Membership Engagement

Foster engagement in committees, forums, networking, events, and education and training.

Advocacy

Lead the AGC Advocacy effort at the state and local levels. Manage the AGC contract lobbyists.

Coalitions and Economic Development Groups

Participate in and, in some cases, lead various coalitions and Economic Development groups for the benefit of the commercial construction industry.

Communications

Manage the communications strategy of the AGC, including member communications and stakeholder communications, and manage social media efforts.

Financial Management and Budget

Develop and manage the AGC and the Construction Education Foundation Budget and Financial Statements to provide needed services and financial stability for the organization.

Labor Relations

Collaborate with the AGC Collective Bargaining Committee to maintain strong labor relations with the Carpenters and Laborers, administrate any grievances, and negotiate future agreements. Provide third-party administrator services for the AGC-SW Regional Council of Carpenters Labor Management Cooperative Committee.

Programs

Manage others who lead in the delivery of AGC’s programs and services.

Culture of Care

Lead the AGC’s newest effort to address diversity and inclusion, well-being, and mental health programs.

Construction Education Foundation of Colorado

Collaborate with the Board and Executive Director of CEF to provide high school and adult apprenticeship and workforce programs and deliver the services of the OSHA Training Institute Education Center for Region 8.

Affiliate Organizations

Provide leadership to various affiliate organizations and programs, including the Contractor’s Health Trust, AGC and Pinnacol Work Comp Insurance and Dividend Program, and AGC Multiple Employer 401k Plan through Equitable.

Location and Travel

This in-person position is based at the AGC HQ in Denver, Colorado. Up to 25% travel throughout the state and to national AGC meetings is required.

Compensation

Commensurate with experience. Salary target is $175,000 – $200,000 plus a performance bonus program. Outstanding fringe benefit package including PTO, medical, dental, disability, and 401k program.
