Chief Financial Officer
Role
Reporting to the firm’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as an integral member of the Executive Management Team. This position will be responsible for the development of the company’s financial management and capital strategy and will contribute to the development of the organization’s strategic goals. The CFO will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial related activities of the company. The CFO is also responsible for the company’s present financial condition, so he/she must decide how to invest the company’s money, taking into consideration risk and liquidity. In addition, the CFO oversees the capital structure of the company, determining the best mix of debt, equity, and internal financing. He/she is responsible for driving discipline and success in all areas of capital markets, accounting operations and financial strategy for the firm. CFO must be able to identify and report what areas of a company are most efficient and how the company can capitalize on this information. The ideal candidate acts as a business partner and advisor to the CEO and Executive team in the areas of investment strategy, corporate strategy, corporate development, capital markets and operational excellence with emphasis on world-class accounting, reporting, and management.

Responsibilities
Include but not limited to:
Capital Relationships, Formation and Strategies:
- In close cooperation with the CEO, oversee and participate in the organization’s efforts to raise new capital. Help think through capital markets strategies as well as help raise funds from existing and new investors
- Provide strategic recommendations based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis
- Address issues surrounding current capital structure
- Maintain capital partner relationships and arrange for debt and equity financing
- Corporate and Transaction Advisory – will bring a capital markets perspective, alongside the CEO and transaction team, to help think through balance sheet strategies and how the Company can structure debt and equity financings to strategically leverage the Company
- Will play an integral role in relationship management with investors and key capital relationships
- Maintains presence externally through participation at industry conferences, outside organization committees, etc.
- Manages and maintains relationships with industry and capital partners
- Lead the firm’s capital formation strategies and activities. Implement capital markets strategies focused on raising funds from existing and new investors.
- Develop compelling fundraising strategy, decks, conduct outreach, cultivate and manage the relationship with stakeholders and asset management platforms
- Act as a public representative for the organization in fundraising events
- Provide strategic recommendations based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis
- Address issues surrounding current capital structure
Financial Accounting/Reporting – with the Controllership, leads the accounting and reporting function:
- Oversee general accounting operations, including payroll and benefits, A/R, A/P, etc.
- Assure the financial integrity of all financial reporting
- Lead the preparation and analysis of all company financial statements
- Establish and maintain appropriate internal controls and overall corporate compliance
- Provide monthly internal and annual GAAP reports and forecasts
- Oversee annual financial audit and independent auditor relationship
- Develop financial strategy, assist in aligning the operational strategy and then maintaining the performance measures tied to strategy
- Oversees all tax returns and compliance with applicable tax requirements, including meeting all compliance, licensing, regulatory agencies and best practices
- Manages reporting for outside investors
- Leads and executes the preparation and completion of Partnership financials and supervises the day-to-day input of Partnership-related transactions
- Safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across the entire business. Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
- Provide ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results
- Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting
- Oversee and administer treasury management including managing operating cash funds, hedging, and decisions on cash flow funding
Financial Strategy, Management, Planning:
- Manage annual budgeting process, including Annual Business Plan, the ongoing Strategic Plan and Company Corporate Goals
- Develop detailed financial plans and multi-year forecasts including analyzing, identifying, promoting, and implementing plans, policies, and programs to increase pricing power, enhance the gross margin, lean out and accelerate working capital, conserve and maximize the impact of capital expenditures, and other opportunities to grow equity value
- Analyze operating results and clearly explain causes of significant variances to plan and forecast with variance analysis in a clear and concise manner.
- Develop fact-based recommended courses of corrective action to achieve planned financial results
- Manage the firm’s corporate financial model, including financials, cash flow, cash requirements and multi-year forecasting and scenario planning
- Manages third-party borrowing relationships
- Performs all (FMV) and (NAV) calculations on annual basis
- Participate and in some cases, lead in joint venture negotiations and restructurings
Administration and Overall Corporate Leadership Functions:
- Will take the lead in upcoming project to evaluate current accounting, asset management, and loan management systems to explore overall information system integration and upgrade for the firm
- Review and annual updating of the company’s Business Continuity Plan
- In addition to the specific responsibilities of this position, the CFO is a senior leader in the company. CFO is a key advisor to the CEO and is expected to advise the overall business not just on his/her specific areas of responsibility, but holistically across the business.
- Lead the annual profit plan and business review process for each operating subsidiary
- Evaluate financial performance of organization with regard to long-term operational goals, budgets and forecasts. Provide insight and recommendations to growth plan
- Develop systems that support real-time financial information availability and incorporate financial rigor into business decisions
- As one of the senior officers of the company, be active externally within the industry to understand and share best practices and to proactively seek opportunities for the Company’s growth
- Identify, acquire and implement systems and software to provide critical financial and operational information. Evaluate departments and make suggestions for automating processes and increasing working efficiency.
Qualifications
- Experience: Min 15 yrs of progressive experience in real estate accounting or finance
- Education: Must have Bachelor’s. MBA and/or CPA preferred
- Strong leadership and teamwork ability; provide support/direction
- Must understand accounting of complex real estate partnerships at the project level as well as at the portfolio/corporate level.
- Will bring an understanding of investor reporting and the need for transparency
- Has a strong understanding of the structuring and tax treatment of real estate partnerships
- Has strong experience in real estate capital markets and a sophisticated background in debt and equity structuring, partnership waterfalls, etc.
- Brings experience with structured finance and management of on-balance and off-balance sheet lending programs.
- Ability to effectively delegate and negotiate
